Why hasn't Ford let Jaguar taken the XK8 to LeMans?  Modified, I see no reason why it couldn't do well in the GTS class against Ford's perennial rival Corvette.  Not only could a Ford owned marque whip the pants off Chevrolet, Ferrari, Saleen, etc., but it would also let the public know that even though the F1 program caved in, Jaguar can still beat the world.  A third eventuality is that of restoring Jaguar prominance at the 24 hour race, something sorely missing since the 1980s.  And who knows?  A few victories at the GTS level might give rise to a Jaguar LeMans prototype with enough might to derail the Audi train; it worked for Porsche.

I think we will see a resurgence in sports car racing over the next several years. I find F1 to be very boring. Racing F1 cars doesn't really improve road cars because they share almost nothing. F1 just isn't what is used to be.

Aston Martin Racing now has the DBR9 which it will race in 2005.

The Corvette C5-R was raced by the factory and the C6-R will also be raced by the factory. People have seen that racing has helped improve the 2006 Corvette Z06. The Corvette C6-R will be a difficult car for the Aston Martin DBR9 to defeat.

I sure hope Jaguar races the next XK.

Hi, I hope that Jaguar will enter with next XK generation GT racing in Europe - Trans Am is very good for sale in USA, but who in Europe knows this series??? And may be after winning in GT we will see new generatin of Jaguar XJR-18, I thing last one was TWR XJR-17 for IMSA. Jaguar has very good engines and great motorsport history - like Porsche and Ferrari. I dont know any other marque, which can be in motorsport on same level.

Even in the US, the series doesn't earn much notariety.  NASCAR reigns supreme, and few people over here have even heard of Trans-Am.  European racing would be a far better way for Jaguar to market it's cars, especially coming off it's best selling year ever in Europe.

Yes, but there is a problem with ETCC - I think this series is only for cars with 2l engine - and it is too small for Jag... maybe only X-type can race in ETCC. Or jaguar can race with S-type in national V8 series.

Isn't there a racecar series in Europe like the American Le Mans Series?

There's the FIA GT series in which Dodge witnessed class dominance with their Viper GTS-R a few years back, and Maserati enjoyed some success last year when their new prototypes finished 1,2 in China.  There also might still be an Endurance series that runs a few 8 & 12 hour races at places like the Nurburgring and Monza for a few months in the summer.  I haven't heard much about it for a couple of years, so it could have been dissolved (you know how the FIA is).  However, I've heard of a private series run by Group C car owners who get together periodically and race for fun.  I would pay to see Mercedes vs. Porshce vs. Jaguar battles again, even if only for sport.

Rocketsports Racing will race the R Performace XKR this season with the 4.5l 650 hp Jaguar AJ-V8.

I'm confused by your post.

One year ago, there was gamble, that Rocketsports is working on another car for trans am - S ytpe or X-type....

I hope Rocketsports stays with the XKR, if for no other reason than it's the best looking car in the Trans-Am series by leaps and bounds.  The Corvette and Mustang look bloated and out of style, but the XK always looks like a brand new model, even if the design is almost a decade old.

I think only eight-cylinder-powered coupes are allowed in the Trans-Am Series (Dodge Viper has a V-10 though).

Both the Mustang and Corvette are new for 2005.
